October: A Month of Balance, Grounding, and Sacred Mystery
New Moon in Libra: Saturday 10th October
Full Moon in Taurus: Monday 26th October
Samhain: Saturday 31st October
Theme of the Month: Alignment, Rooting & Release
October carries us deeper into autumn. The Libra New Moon begins with an invitation to restore harmony, reconsider what feels fair and reciprocal, and make choices that bring you back into alignment. The Taurus Full Moon then draws your attention towards what is solid, nourishing, and worth holding onto. Finally, Samhain brings us to one of the great thresholds of the year, a time to honour endings, remember those who came before us, and release what has completed its cycle.
This is a month to find your centre, strengthen your roots, and make peace with what is ready to end.
π Moon Phases & Rituals
New Moon in Libra - Ritual: Returning to Balance
Libra asks you to notice where your life feels harmonious and where something has quietly tipped out of balance.
You'll need:
- Two small candles
- A piece of paper and pen
- A rose petal or small flower
Place the candles opposite one another and light them.
Between them, write down one area of your life that needs greater balance.
Ask yourself:
"What would restore harmony here?"
Write one change you are willing to make and say:
"I choose what brings me back to centre.
I honour my needs and the needs of others.
I create balance through conscious choice."
Place the flower on top of the paper and leave it overnight.
Full Moon in Taurus - Ritual: What Remains
Taurus reminds us to return to what is tangible and true. As autumn deepens, this Full Moon asks you to recognise what genuinely sustains you.
You'll need:
- A green or white candle
- A small stone
- Something nourishing to eat
Light the candle and hold the stone.
Think about everything that has changed during the year.
Ask:
"What remains steady beneath all this change?"
Name three things that support, nourish, or ground you.
Eat your chosen food slowly and mindfully, then say:
"I trust what is rooted.
I honour what sustains me.
I have more than enough to meet this season."
Keep the stone somewhere visible as you move towards Samhain.
Samhain - The Threshold of Remembrance
Samhain marks the final harvest and the beginning of the darkest part of the year. It is traditionally a time for remembering the dead, acknowledging endings, and listening more closely to the stories that continue to travel with us.
You'll need:
- A candle
- A photograph, name, or object connected to someone you wish to remember
- A small offering of food or drink
Place the photograph, name, or object beside your candle.
Light the candle and take a moment to remember.
Say:
"I honour those who walked before me.
I remember the stories that shaped me.
I carry forward what nourishes
and release what ends with me."
Leave your offering beside the candle for the evening.
Before closing the ritual, speak a simple thank you.
πͺ Monthly Spell: The Autumn Release Spell
Find a fallen leaf.
Hold it in your hands and name something that has reached its natural ending.
Say:
"As the trees release their leaves,
I release what has completed its season.
I do not need to carry everything forward."
Return the leaf to the earth and walk away without looking back.
π§ββοΈ Guided Meditation: Connecting to the Energy of Samhain
A 12-minute meditation to reflect on endings, honour what has shaped you, and consciously cross into the darker season of the year.
π October Journal Prompts
At the New Moon (10th)
Where has my life become unbalanced?
What would greater reciprocity look like in my relationships?
What choice would bring me back into alignment?
At the Full Moon (26th)
What genuinely sustains me?
What feels solid and dependable in my life?
What am I grateful to have as I enter the darker months?
At Samhain (31st)
What has reached its natural ending?
What stories, wisdom, or traditions do I want to carry forward?
What am I ready to leave at the threshold?
π―οΈ October Portal: Samhain β The Final Harvest
Samhain marks a profound turning point in the seasonal wheel. The harvest is complete, the land is quietening, and darkness increasingly shapes our days.
Traditionally, this is a time when the boundaries between worlds are considered thinner, making Samhain a powerful season for remembrance, divination, storytelling, and honouring those who came before us.
It also offers something beautifully simple: permission to recognise that endings belong to life.
The trees release their leaves. The fields become bare. Nature does not cling to what has completed its season and neither must you.
π€ Samhain Ritual: The Ancestor Candle
You'll need:
- A candle
- Photographs, names, or meaningful objects
- A favourite food, drink, flower, or other small offering
- Your journal
Create a small space containing the people, places, or ancestors you want to remember.
Light the candle and speak their names aloud if that feels appropriate.
Ask:
"What do I carry because of those who came before me?"
Write whatever memories, stories, qualities, or thoughts arise.
Finish by saying:
"I remember.
I give thanks.
I carry the story forward in my own way."
Extinguish the candle when you are ready to close the ritual.
