A Ritual to Reawaken Delight

As the days grow longer and the world hums with the sweet, golden promise of early summer, we are invited to rekindle our inner light to live in full-colour, in laughter, in the shimmering pulse of joy.

The Ember of Joy is a ritual designed to reawaken your innate capacity for wonder and delight. It's a magickal act of devotion to your soul’s happiness, a playful conjuration of enchantment, light-heartedness, and sacred pleasure.

What You’ll Need

  • A yellow or orange candle (for joy, warmth, and creativity)
  • A small bowl of honey or something sweet (to symbolise life’s nectar)
  • A piece of sunstone, carnelian, or citrine (optional — for joy, vitality, and light)
  • Your favourite upbeat music or natural sounds that evoke joy (birds, laughter, streams)
  • A journal or piece of paper and a golden or brightly coloured pen
  • Fresh flowers or something fragrant that delights your senses (like citrus peel or lavender)
  • A mirror (handheld or placed nearby)

Ritual Steps
1. Preparing the Temple of Joy
Choose a time when you won’t be disturbed.

Set the scene in a room bathed in natural light, or light your candle to invite in the energy of the sun.

Arrange your sweet offering, flowers, crystal, and mirror around you.

Let this space feel playful, inviting, and alive with the possibility of joy.

Play music that stirs your spirit — music that makes your body want to move, or your heart want to sing.

2. Anointing the Self with Sweetness
Dip your finger into the honey (or your chosen sweet), and gently anoint your lips, saying aloud:

“I receive the sweetness of life with an open heart. Joy flows to me, through me, and from me.”

Taste it slowly. Let the sweetness linger.

Allow it to remind your body what joy feels like — rich, sacred, and deserved.

3. Calling in the Joyful Flame
Light the candle and gaze into its flame.

Visualise this spark igniting an ember of joy deep within your chest.

Breathe in warmth.

Breathe out heaviness.

With each inhale, draw in joy.

With each exhale, release whatever dims your light.

Whisper or speak clearly:

“I call joy back into my life. I remember my right to delight.”

4. Reflection in the Mirror
Take up your mirror.

Gaze gently at yourself. Not to fix or judge, but to witness the divine spark within you that has always known joy.

Ask aloud or silently:

“What brings me true joy?”
“Where have I silenced my laughter, dimmed my light, or denied myself pleasure?”
“How can I say yes to joy more often, and with greater devotion?”

Write down any insights, memories, or longings that arise. Let your pen flow with playful honesty.

5. Dancing with Delight
Let your body move, even if only your fingers, shoulders, or breath.

Dance, sway, stretch, or simply pulse with the rhythm of joy in your own way.

Feel yourself alive. Feel yourself here.

Let the music and the moment remind you: joy is your birthright. And it begins in the now.

6. Closing the Circle
Blow out the candle with gratitude, imagining the joy you’ve kindled continuing to glow within you, carried like a golden flame in your heart.

Thank the space, your body, and the day.

Optionally, leave a small offering of honey or flowers outdoors as a token of your joy shared with the land.

Post-Ritual Integration
Choose one small act of joy to do today, something seemingly simple, yet soul-nourishing. A favourite snack, a walk in the sun, a spontaneous message to someone you love.

You’ve opened the door. Now let joy flow through.

The Ember of Joy is a celebration of the self and the world, an act of sacred remembering.

In choosing joy, you reclaim the vibrant pulse of life that sings in your blood and blooms in your days.

Let this ritual be your reminder that joy is not frivolous, it is foundational. And you, radiant soul, are its beloved vessel.
